The illustrator of the famous Gruffalo! The picture book about the clever little mouse who outwits the terrifying Gruffalo has been published in 115 languages and sold 18 million copies only in the english version! Axel Scheffler has since illustrated over 100 other children’s books, many of them based on stories from author Julia Donaldson.
On friday, February 6, 2026, the warm-hearted and friendly illustrator read three stories to children of the english section: \u201cWelcome!\u201d, the adventures of the penguin \u201cJonty Gentoo\u201d and, to round things off, the rhyming \u201cGruffelo\u201d once again. He also drew pictures, signed countless books and chatted with the children.
On friday evening it was announced at the Literaturhaus Frankfurt that a long-awaited third Gruffalo book will be published in the fall. In german on September 24th, \u201cDie Gr\u00fcffelo Oma\u201d , in english \u201cGruffalo Granny\u201d \u2013 will be published on September 10th.<\/strong>
And last not least: Axel Scheffler is a real european: Born and raised in Hamburg, he has lived in London since youth and his life partner is a french woman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
