The illustrator of the famous Gruffalo! The picture book about the clever little mouse who outwits the terrifying Gruffalo has been published in 105 languages and sold 18 million copies worldwide! Axel Scheffler has since illustrated over 100 other children’s books, many of them with author Julia Donaldson.
On friday, February 6, 2026, the warm-hearted and friendly illustrator read three stories to children of the english section: “Welcome!”, the adventures of the penguin “Jonty Gentoo” and, to round things off, the rhyming “Gruffelo” once again. He also drew pictures, signed countless books and chatted with the children.
On friday evening it was also announced at the Literaturhaus Frankfurt that a long-awaited third Gruffalo book will be published in the fall. In german on September 24th, “Die Grüffelo Oma” , in english “Gruffalo Granny” – will be published on September 10th.
And last not least: Axel Scheffler is a real european: Born and raised in Hamburg, he has lived in London since youth and is married to a french woman.
